About Veggie Oil Car System
Veggie Oil Car System is a conversion kit that allows diesel engines to run on vegetable oil. It comprises a set of heat exchangers which derive its heat from waste heat from the engine. The principle is simple. Vegetable oil is too viscous and its flash point* is too high to be used as a direct diesel fuel substitute. But by raising the temperature of the vegetable oil, the viscosity is reduced and the temperature is brought closer to that of flash point. Veggie Oil Car Systems was designed and developed by Alterenergy Systems Inc.
*flash point - the temperature at which the fuel becomes combustible
About Alterenergy Systems Inc.
Alterenergy Systems Inc., is an environmental company whose mission is to search for, develop, manufacture, market and distribute eco-friendly technologies that will provide alternative means of energy. It is currently engaged in commercializing its Veggie Car Systems, which allows diesel engines to run on used cooking oil.
History of SVO
The first diesel engine, invented by Rudolf Diesel in 1894, first ran on peanut oil. As Petroleum was discovered in abundance, cheap petro-diesel replaced vegetable oil as a source of fuel for the diesel engine. About 30 years ago, German engineers developed SVO (Straight Vegetable Oil) Systems that allowed diesel engines to run on vegetable oil. They had been implementing it on cars, trucks and even locomotives. SVO systems began to be popular in the past decade in the USA because of rising fuel costs and environmental concerns. SVO systems are now found in the UK, China, and now in the Philippines.

Single Tank System

This single tank system is the simplest and most affordable conversion kit. Since there is only one fuel tank, the engine will run on either pure vegetable oil, pure diesel or a mixture of the two. This system can only be used for warm weather conditions (about 20oC and above). The fuel temperature is automatically controlled by thermostat to always provide optimum temperature.
Double Tank System

This double tank system allows diesel engines to run on vegetable oil even in cold weather conditions. There is a separate tank for pure diesel fuel which is used for start up and shut down of the engines in the cold. Since vegetable oil solidifies in cold weather (19oC and below), diesel is used to start up the engine. When the engine heats up, the system warms the vegetable oil to liquefy it. Through the use of solenoid valves, the engine can now switch over to vegetable oil. Before shutting down, the system shifts over to diesel fuel again to avoid vegetable oil solidifying in the fuel lines when not in use. The fuel temperature is automatically controlled by thermostat to always provide optimum temperature. Double tank systems are custom made for each type of vehicle and can be costly. Double tank is only advisable when the vehicle will be used in cold weather.

Environmental Benefits
Veggie Oil Car Systems provides tremendous environmental benefits.
Carbon Monoxide Reduction – by running on WVO, the toxic carbon monoxide can be reduced by as much as 50%. This pollutant is monitored and regulated by the LTO (Land Transportation Office) where penalties are imposed on vehicles that do not pass the standard (2.5 ppm). When running on WVO, most vehicles pass with flying colors!
Sulfur Oxides (SOx) – Diesel always contains some percentage of sulfur. When diesel is burned, the sulfur turns into sulfur oxides that, when mixed with rain water, turns into sulfuric acid or acid rain. Vegetable Oil does not contain sulfur, thus eliminating the sulfur oxides completely.
Hydrocarbons – are actually evaporated fuel that was not completely burned in the combustion process. Gaseous, uncombusted diesel fuel is toxic when inhaled and can cause pulmunary illnesses. Vegetable oil is organic. Hydrocarbons produces with combusting vegetable oil are just as harmless as fumes inhaled when inside a fast food kitchen.
Greenhouse Gases – Carbon Dioxide is one of the major causes of global warming. Any engine generates carbon dioxide. Vegetable Oil on the other hand is considered a carbon neutral fuel and is renewable. This means that combusting vegetable oil does not contribute to global warming. Using Veggie Car Systems will help slow down or stop global warming.

Economic Benefits
Waste Vegetable Oil can be found in abundance and cheaply. Installing Veggie Oil Car Systems and running it on vegetable oil will produce tremendous savings on fuel costs.
Waste Vegetable Oil can be sourced locally, and therefore can be monitored and regulated locally. Imported petroleum prices are controlled by world markets which any amount of national legislation can do nothing about. Using Veggie Oil Car Systems will reduce our dependence on imported petroleum.
Performance Benefits
Veggie Oil Car Systems produce to some degree improved performance of the engine. Because vegetable oil has better lubricity than diesel, the engine is better lubricated providing the following improved performance.
Higher top speeds
Smoother, quieter ride
No loss in torque or horsepower
Advocacies
Prevention of Global Warming
Many of our so called natural calamities have been attributed to Global Warming. As our planets temperature rises, the frequency and intensity of these calamaties increase. We get stronger and more frequent typhoons. We are getting torrential rains with unprecedented rainfall causing floods and landslides, resulting in loss of lives. By using renewable energy technology, we replace petroleum with fuels that are carbon neutral, fuels that do not contribute to global warming, thus slowing down global warming. Hopefully we can put a stop to it completely.
Curbing Air Pollution
Burning petroleum results in many toxic fumes that are harmful to humans and to our environment. The toxic fumes are Carbon Monoxide, Sulfur Oxides, Hydrocarbons and Nitrous Oxides. By replace petro-diesel with waste vegetable oil, we reduce or completely eliminate these pollutants.

Poverty Alleviation
Supplementary income for the marginalized can be generated from the sale of waste cooking oil. Alterenergy purchases and collects used cooking oil from fishball vendors, households help and canteens workers, giving additional income to these people.
Curbing Public Health Risk
Waste Vegetable Oil is currently being bought be traders that filter and bleach the oil, and sold as new cooking oil in public markets, or are sold to chicharon and hopia makers for their production. Waste Vegetable Oil is also being bought by animal feed companies. Many countries have prohibited such use of waste vegetable oil for the reason that it is CARCINOGENIC and contains a lot of BACTERIA.

FAQ
1. Does the quality of the WVO affect the performance of the engine?
Yes. The type of WVO affects the performance of the engine. The best types of oils are the ones with the highest heating values (calorific values). This means the oil has very high chemical energy per liter. Other oils with lower heating values produce significantly lower engine performance. Alterenergy blends the different types of WVO to get the optimum level of price and performance, with out having to sacrifice torque, horsepower or mileage.
2. Where do I get my fuel?
Alterenergy has a fueling station right in its office in Kamagong St. Check out our location map.
3. Can I still load petro-diesel in case I too far from the any WVO fuel station?
Yes you can load petro-diesel, even with a single tank system. You can even load diesel while there is still WVO in your tank. You can mix any proportion of petro-diesel and WVO from 100% WVO to 100% petro-diesel.
4. Does SVO have the same mileage / fuel economy?
In general yes. WVO fuel sourced from Alterenergy produces the same or even sometimes better mileage than diesel.
5. Can I filter my own WVO if I have my own source?
Yes, you can filter your own WVO, and Alterenergy can show you how. But Alterenergy will have to forfeit the warranty because Alterenergy is not in control of the quality of the filtering. Alterenergy encourages that you have it filtered with our company as we have developed the skills, expertise and its own technology for filtering and dewatering.
6. Can WVO damage my engine?
If WVO is not filtered and dewatered properly, it can damage the engine and most especially the injection pump and injectors. WVO contains contaminants like sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, solid food particulates and water which can clog or destroy parts in the injector and injection system. Water or moisture is most especially harmful. The WVO needs to be thoroughly filtered and dewatered. We encourage that you have the WVO filtered with our experts in Alterenergy.

World Wildlife Fund (www.wwf.org.ph)
Alterenergy has partnered with World Wildlife Fund in their climate change projects. Because SVO technology is a relatively cheap way to convert diesel engines to run on a renewable source of energy, and because waste vegetable oil is a completely carbon neutral fuel, the WWF is promoting this technology as an alternative source of energy for motorists.
